Background to the commercialization of the industrial
5.7-inch QVGA TFT LCDs
Kyocera regards the industrial LCDs used in the
human-machine interface of industrial equipment
as the main market for its liquid crystal business,
and has been engaged in the development, manufacture
and sales of passive-matrix (STN) LCDs. Unlike
the consumer products market, such as computer
monitors that have short product life cycles,
there is a strong need for manufacturers to offer
a long-term, stable supply system and assurance
of continued product availability in the industrial
LCD market. Kyocera’s long-term supply commitment
and the quality of its products have received
strong market approval.
To enhance the value of the products and to differentiate
them from those of other companies, some industrial
equipment manufacturers are trying to incorporate
into the equipment an LCD with moving images,
multiple colors and a fine array of gradations.
In view of these market demands, Kyocera commercialized
the new QVGA TFT LCD in the industrial 5.7-inch
size.
With the expanded lineup of the Kyocera 5.7” V
Series, already considered the benchmark for value
and performance for industrial LCDs, equipment
manufacturers will be able to select the most
suitable specifications from color STN, monochrome
STN and TFT according to their needs, while maintaining
the same bezel design and installation position.
It also provides a clear path from monochrome
STN, to color STN, to color TFT, simplifying product
differentiation or upgrading, and reducing time
to market.
